The 50 weight Mako cotton thread is the most popular and versatile thread. It is ideal for hand piecing and hand applique especially when using the needle turn method. It also perfect for machine applique when you want the fabric to be the feature rather than the thread- the thread looks like it “melts” into the fabric, use straight, small zig zag, and blanket stitches. The 50 wt thread is fine and thin which is helpful in creating a very flat seam when machine piecing. In machine quilting it works great for back tracking and heavy background design work.
The 40 weight Mako cotton thread is slightly heavier than the 50 weight. It is also very universal – It is ideal for hand piecing, machine applique, machine piecing, machine embroidery and serging. It can also be used for straight and free motion machine quilting your quilted designs will stand out against your fabric.
